Welcome to BARINGO COUNTY EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT EXAMINATION. Music Paper 2 aural for the year 2011.

Test 1              Rhythm on monotone.

Test 1a                        Repetitive drum pattern.

You are required to write down the following drum pattern on monotone inserting the correct time signature and bar lines.

It begins on the first beat of the bar and will be played four times.

Now, here is the crotchet pulse followed by the first play through

Give the crotchet pulse

Give 30 seconds interval between instructions and play through.

Here is the 2nd play through.

Here is the 3rd play through

And now here is the 4th and last play through.

You are required to write down the following melody on monotone inserting the correct time signature and bar lines. It begins on the first beat of the bar and will be played four times.

Test II              Melody

Test 2a             Melody in a major key

The following melody is in the key of Bb major

 The melody will be played through once, then the first phrase will be played through twice and then the second phrase twice, and finally the whole melody will be played through once again.

Write down the treble clef.

And now insert the key signature of Bb major

The melody is in 3 time.

Write the time signature now.

The melody begins on the first beat of the bar.

Here is the tonic chord of Bb major and the key note followed by the whole melody.

Give the crotchet pulse.

Give the tonic chord and the key note.

Give 30 second interval between instructions and play through.

Here is the key note followed by the first phrase.

Here is the first phrase again.

Here is the key note followed by the second phrase.

Here is the second phrase again.

Finally here is the tonic chord followed by the whole melody.

Test 2b             Melody in a minor key.

  The following melody is in the key of C minor

 The melody will be played through once, then the first phrase will be played through twice and then the second phrase twice, and finally the whole melody will be played through once again.

Write down the treble clef.

And now insert the key signature of C minor

The melody is in 3 time.

The melody begins on the last beat of the bar.

Here is the tonic chord of C minor and the key note followed by the whole melody.

Give the tonic chord and the key note.

Give 30 seconds interval between instructions and play through.

Here is the key note followed by the first phrase.

Here is the first phrase again.

Here is the key note followed by the second phrase.

Here is the second phrase again.

Finally here is the tonic chord followed by the whole melody.

Test III              Intervals.

Two intervals will be sounded harmonically and each interval will be sounded twice. You are required to describe each interval.

Test IV – Cadences

There are four cadences in the passage, perfect, imperfect, plagal and interrupted.

The passage will be played through four times with a pause at each cadential point.

You are required to describe each cadence at each cadential point.

And now here is the 4th and last play through.

Test V – Modulation

Test 5 (a)

The following melody is in the key of FÊ# minor. It modulates once away from the tonic key.

You are required to name the key to which it modulates before returning to its tonic.

The melody will be played three times.

 Here is the tonic chord of minor F#   followed by the first play through.

Sound the tonic chord

Here is the second play through.

Here is the third and final play through.

Test 5 (b)

The following melody is in the key of F major. It modulates once away from the tonic key.

You are required to name the key to which it modulates before returning to its tonic.

The melody will be played three times.

 Here is the tonic chord of F major followed by the first play through.

Here is the second play through.

Here is the third and final play through.

You have now come to the end of the exam. You now have 5 minutes to go through your work before handing in your paper.
