      -Soak /steep( ½ ) to dissolve dirt and remove some stains ( ½ ).

      -Wash in warm ( ½ )soapy ( ½ ) water ,use friction( ½ )method to quicken lathering and remove

        dirt respectively( ½ ).

     -Rinse (  ½ )in warm( ½ )water to remove traces of dirt /detergent( ½ ).

     -Disinfect (add dettol) or boil( ½ ) to kill germs.

     -Finally rinse in cold water to freshen it( ½).

     -Dry in the sun( ½) to remove moisture( ½)

     -Sprinkle( ½) with water and roll for moisture to spread evenly( ½).

     -Iron with hot( ½ )iron – cotton withstands high temperatures.

     -Air( ½) to remove moisture and smell.

      -Rinse( ½) by wiping with a rag( ½) wrung from clean water (warm) from top to bottom. Rinse

       thoroughly /several times ( ½)NB last rinse can be done by use of cold water.

      -Clean both inside and out side.( ½)

      -Dry with a dry non-fluffy material.( ½)                                                              ( 6 marks )

 (c)       Cleaning water glass.

      -Use warm( ½) soapy( ½) water and soft materials /sisal fibres( ½).

      -Rinse( ½) thoroughly in warm( ½) water.

      -Drain on a rack or wipe with clean dry kitchen towel( ½) to remove water /dry( ½).

     -When completely dry buff( ½) and store.

1.         A pattern of a child’s dress is provided. You are advised to study the sketches, instructions and

            layout before you begin the test.

Materials provided.

            A  – Front Bodice

            B – Back Bodice

            C – Front Skirt

            D – Back Skirt

             E    Sleeve

            F    Collar

            G   Back neck facing

4.  Sewing thread to match the fabric.

                                     THE TEST.

            Using the materials provided, cut out and make up the LEFT half of the child’s dress to show

            the following.

 (a)       The making of the shoulder dart.

 (b)       The making of a double stitched seam at the shoulder.

 (c)       The joining of the front and back facing at the shoulder and neating of the free edge of the joined

            facings.           

 (d)      The preparation of an interfaced collar.

 (e)       The attaching of the bodice pieces to the skirt pieces neatening the back part only.

 (f)       The making and neatening of an open seam at the side.

            Attach the zip into the seam using semi concealed method.

 (g)       The attaching of the collar using the joined facings.

 (h)       The preparation of the sleeve using a French seam at the under arm.

 (i)        The attaching of the sleeve into the arm hole, leaving the seam allowance untrimmed                                 and unneatened.

                                   OMIT.

            The management of the lower hem and sleeve hem.

At the end of the examination, firmly sew onto your work, on a single fabric, a label bearing your name. Remove needles, pins and threads from your work. Then fold your work carefully and put in the provided envelope. Tuck in the flap.
