            – Register your fabric

            – Pour ink/ dye onto a sheet of glass, spread using roller – thinly and evenly

            – Transfer onto the block

            – Place inked block to fit in the first grid, press with palm.

            – Print in alternate grid until all are done depending on pattern flow

            – Wash and dry the block

            – Transfer the design for the second colour.

            – Cut away areas to retain the first colour.

            – Ink block and print as previously done

            – Areas overlapping produce a third category of colour

            – Fix the dye by ironing.  Display your work

This paper contains TWO alternatives; A and B.  Each alternative has two options.  Choose only ONE option from any ONE alternative.

This questions paper will be given to you one hour before the start of the examination to enable you to make your choice from the alternatives.  During this one hour, you are allowed to make sketches on the A4 papers provided to help you decide on your choice.

The use of rulers and other mechanical means is forbidden in alternative A but is allowed in alternative B.

Clearly write your name, index number, the alternative, number of option chosen, signature and date in that order in the spaces provided.

At the end of the examination, pass your work to the Art teacher without rolling or folding it.

Answer only ONE question chosen from EITHER alternative A or alternative B.

DRAWING

1.         Compose a still-life from memory based on; a big pot with a cluster of assorted fruits scattered 

round it.  Next to it is a crumpled  cloth and on top of it is a clear glass half filled with liquid. 

Work should be in a space of 30cm by 45cm.

PAINTING

2.         In an area measuring 30cm by 45cm, create a pictorial composition based on the theme,

‘The internally displaced persons demonstrating  along the highway.

ALTERNATIVE B:  GRAPHICS

You are instructed that the use of rulers and other mechanical devices as well as tracing paper is allowed.

The colour of the working surface (paper) will not be considered as one of the colours required in any question.

3.         Karibu Limited has launched a soft drink for all in the family, it has a brand name ‘LILY’. 

The Company require a colour scheme for its label.

Design

– The label to include; name of company the drink and any other relevant information.

– Be in three colours.

4.         The Kenya Commision on Truth, Justice and Reconciliation (TJRC) will be meeting residents

of Mwala District at the Masii hall to receive their views.  The meeting will be on 10th September

2011 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  The commission  requires a poster in addition to other forms of communication to inform people about the meeting

Design a poster for the commission which should :

–    Be in three colours

  • Be in an area of 45cm by 30cm
  • Include any other relevant information.

The information contained in this document is to enable the Head of the school and the Art teacher to make adequate preparations for this Art and Design Practical examinations.

NO ONE ELSE should have access to this document or acquire have access to this document or acquire knowledge of its contents and great care must be taken to ensure that the information does not reach the candidates either directly or indirectly.

Candidates will be instructed to choose only ONE option from any one of the two alternatives A and B.  However, the Art teacher must make provisions for all the options in both alternatives  for the candidates to be able to make their choices.
